Diabetes

Diabetes is very prevalent in modern society and becoming more so by the day. As well as being a disease that can affect you whole body and one that often requires medical treatment; it can have specific implications for your feet.

If you are Diabetic it is recommended that you have your feet checked annually as part of a Diabetic foot assessment (Diabetes Australia) and your Podiatrist will be able to undertake this for you. Usually a vascular (blood supply) and neurological (nerve function) check is undertaken along with assessing your feet and footwear for any other problems.

Diabetics often benefit from regular routine foot care as a way of preventing any potential problems. A simple corn, hard skin or nail issue can lead to ulceration and infection and in some cases increase the risk of amputation.
