Flat Feet

A true rigid flat foot can be very disabling and can often require treatment. Fortunately this is rare and most people will simply have a flatter foot than average which is not fixed in this position. This flexible flat foot can cause many functional problems such as foot, leg and back pain and can be treated to resolve these issues.

Pronation is the motion that the foot undergoes in order to become flat and if this motion occurs too fast, at the wrong time or too much then this can cause many problems with walking and running.

Your podiatrist will take a history and assess your foot posture to determine if you require treatment for this. Both supportive footwear and orthotics can be very effective at reducing excessive pronation.
